Hilo, Hawaii — Car rental companies are selling rental cars at a premium in the United States, a new study has found.
The rental car industry is worth an estimated $30 billion in annual sales, according to a study from research firm Equilar.
The study estimated that about 8% of the U.S. rental market is driven by rental car companies.
Rental car companies typically sell vehicles for between $20,000 and $40,000, depending on the vehicle type.
The most popular model is a small sedan or compact SUV.
But the market is saturated with cars and they don’t compete with the cheaper, gas-guzzling trucks.
