India’s car rental giant Geo India has set up a car rental service for the poor, with a focus on poor rural India’s remote areas.
The company has partnered with the government of India’s northeastern region to build a car leasing network in the region.
“In India, we have been working on the idea for many years, and now we are really excited about bringing this project to the world,” said Jaspreet Sohi, Geo India chairman and CEO.
The launch of the service will be announced at a public event on Tuesday, May 17.
Geo India will operate the service with its local partner, Gokul Motors, a car company that is now owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Motors.
Gokul, which is based in Bangalore, plans to develop a fleet of five vehicles, all powered by electric vehicles, for use by the poor in remote areas of the country.
Geo Indian has also launched a mobile app, Geo Cars, that connects with more than 400 car rental companies in India, where it aims to help the poor to save money.
The car rental industry in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 6% by 2020, according to a report from IHS Markit.
In New York, Geo Indian plans to provide free rides for the low-income for the first time.
As of the end of March, Geo has a fleet that will cover 1,000 people, including a couple of dozen women.
“Our aim is to provide them with an opportunity to get a ride,” Sohisay said.
“If we are able to achieve that, they will be able to make a contribution to the economy.”
Sohi said Geo is aiming to provide the service to as many as 6,000 households by the end the year.
Geo cars will operate in cities like New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Boston, he said.
Sohisays the service is not only about cars, but also about people.
I think it’s really important to have a service like this, because people are the future of this country.
In addition to cars, Geo will also offer a range of other services.
It will provide a network of community-owned and operated food trucks and small businesses, it said in a statement.
Also, it plans to build community hubs, including schools and community-supported organizations, that will connect people to jobs, education, and other opportunities.
The service is part of Geo India’s strategy to build out a new vehicle network that will help the country meet its ambitious goals of reducing poverty and inequality, according a statement from the company.
